Through its Directorate General for Global Cooperation and Development (DG DEVCO), the European Commission contributes dramatically to certain initiatives and tasks, such as UNFPA materials, the UNFPA-UNICEF Joint Programme in the Abandonment of Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting, the UNICEF-UNFPA Global Programme to Accelerate Action to End Child wedding, the international Programme to avoid Son choice and Gender-biased Sex Selection, along with to UNFPA nation programmes in every areas.
The newest Consensus that is european on, used in June 2017, aligns the European Union’s development policy using the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
On the basis of the European Union’s dedication to peoples liberties, its development priorities and objectives uphold freedom from physical physical violence for females and girls, with unique focus on genital that is female; child and forced marriage; gender-based and intimate physical physical physical violence; intimate and reproductive health insurance and legal rights, including family members preparation; and education.
From this back ground, the EU-UN Spotlight Initiative to eradicate physical violence against females and girls premiered throughout the UN General Assembly in September 2017. The Spotlight Initiative will implement programmes in the areas of sexual and gender-based violence and harmful practices, trafficking and economic (labour) exploitation, femicide, as well as domestic and family violence in the coming years with €500 million in seed money from the EU.
